Contact the Thurstaston Centre for comprehensive information and a superb Quarterly News Letter containing up to date information on all aspects of the Wirral Country Park.

Wirral’s Coastal Ranger Team is now based at the Thurstaston Centre and is

responsible for the North Wirral Coastal Park, Wirral Country Park, areas of beaches

and foreshore and the Hilbre Islands Local Nature Reserve. The centre is open every

day throughout the year (except Christmas Day) from 10am—4.45pm and has toilets,

an exhibition area and lecture theatre, a bird hide overlooking the hedgerows of the

Wirral Way and a ‘Green Shop’ selling souvenirs, bird food, bird feeders and a range

of information leaflets and booklets from local geology to how to make a wildlife

garden. Information about the Wirral’s coast including tide information, Hilbre safe

crossing times, Leasowe Lighthouse opening times, Hilbre Island Open Days, as well

as school and other group bookings can all now be made through the Thurstaston

Centre, located at the heart of Wirral Country Park overlooking the Dee Estuary. The

Wirral coast is an incredible natural resource that provides us with great access to the

foreshore, wonderfully clean sandy beaches, miles of promenades to walk or cycle

along, great recreational opportunities and great educational opportunities either at

one of the organised public events or through a group booking. Over the last few

months the Rangers and volunteers have been improving the area around the

Thurstaston Centre including tree removal, tree planting, new fencing and seating and

for 2011 we’re planning more events, activities and displays in and around the centre

which will be advertised at:

On Bank Holiday Easter Monday 25th April John White will be giving a

demonstration of woodcarving at Wirral Country Park outside the Thurstaston

Centre. John has worked with Wirral Rangers at various locations in the past but

notably at the forges at Royden Park and Eastham Country Park and at Arrowe

Country Park where he gave practical woodworking instruction. It’s a pleasure to

welcome John to Wirral Country Park where he will hopefully be accompanied

by other woodworkers on the Easter Monday and on the other dates below. John will also be running some

woodcarving courses later in the year—if you’re interested contact the Thurstaston Centre and we’ll add your

name to the list.

Wirral Country Park and the Green Flag Status

Once again due to the sterling work put in from Wirral Council Rangers, with a little help from their friends, "sounds like a good song title" The Status of being awarded the Green Flag is a monumental success, there have been some remarkable improvements to the Wirral Way in particular and the whole of the Wirral Country Park in recent years.

We members of the WCPFG want to see this continue, and to do so we need your help, when you use the park or wander along the Wirral Way, make a note of all you see both good and bad.
